What Keeps Spiceland Friends Busy in Indiana?

By Richard P. Ratcliff, Spiceland Friends clerk

In December, Spiceland Friends Meeting (Indiana Yearly Meeting) held its 56th annual Christmas Eve Cantata and Candlelight Service with 260 in attendance. Recently, 200 new hymnals and 20 new choir chairs were purchased. The roof on the older portion of the meetinghouse is being replaced and two of the six restrooms are being renovated.

This year we renewed our pledge to help the Henry County Pregnancy Care Center, send care packages to our servicemen and women, support Operation Christmas Child with shoe boxes full of age appropriate gifts for needy boys and girls and continue to support White’s Residential Services and Quaker Haven Camp.

Locally, we support a nearby food pantry. Last year we donated nearly $1,000 to this organization plus providing hundreds of pounds of canned and boxed food items. Again this year we will reach out to the shut-ins, the community elderly and nursing home residents.

A portion of the money raised at our 42nd annual County Fair Bazaar in 2011 was used to assist members of the meeting who were in need of food and various household items.
